A display of black dresses by Geoffrey Beene. There are seven dresses, and seven mannequins, for six windows; the corner window shows two mannequins, one on the 5th Avenue side and one on the 49th Street side. PROJECT: In each window, a mannequin stands on the glass. The glass window functions is the floor; you see the mannequin from beneath, as if you’re looking up from under the floor. Each mannequin stands in a different position on the glass: one mannequin’s feet are at the viewer’s eye-level, one mannequin stands above the viewer, one mannequin stands below. It’s as if each mannequin is in a room; adjacent to the glass floor are mirrored walls – adjacent to the mirrored walls is a mirrored ceiling. Each room is built in a forced perspective; each room recedes back from the window to a different vanishing point. In the mirrors, the mannequin and the clothes she wears are viewed from all directions: you see her from the front and you see her from the back, you see her left side and her right, you see her from overhead, Each room is blown apart: walls and ceiling are separated, one from the other -- through the gaps between wall and wall, and between wall and ceiling, blue light floods in from behind. The mannequin is bathed in blue light; the black dresses float in a sea of blue light.

This project view belongs to Saks Fifth Avenue - Windows, and is threadged with:

1999

Built

Display-Exhibition Design

Lights

Luis Vera

Reflective

Saks Fifth Avenue Windows

Streets and Plazas

United States

(I, L, T, A)
