As branches grow out from the trunk, around the trunk, the bus-stop grows out from the tree, around the tree. The tree-trunk is enclosed in a transparent or translucent sleeve; it’s a tree-trunk in a bottle, a tree in a vase. The sleeve stretches out from itself, curves out of itself, away from the tree into an arch; the arch circles around the tree like a tunnel. As the arch curves down toward the ground, it forms the back of a bench; when it hits the ground, it folds up inside to make a seat. Inside the bus-stop, you have a tree of your own; rain pours down around the tree-trunk, snow mounts up the tree-trunk. Inside one world you’re next to another, as if you’re looking into an aquarium. At night, light from within the benches glows up over the shell around you.
