We keep the metal slats of the fence, but we play with them a little; the slats are more fluid now, they expand and contract, they twist and turn and shift, they make privacy screens between private patios, wind-screens, canopies. Turn the boxy concrete wall into a bulge: now push the bulge in – make niches, seating niches, for one person, two people, three – the metal slats curve in, like a hammock, to let a person lean back. There aren’t any trees on Fleet Street; because of underground utilities, trees can’t be planted here. So we use the metal slats of our fence as a construction method, a re-construction method: the slats are shaped into trees, into trunks and branches, the metal slats substitute for trees. Cut the slats – stretch the cut ends up and wind them together, and then pull out a loop of slats over the sidewalk. Now grow climbing plants, from the private patios, up the vertical slats, over the loop and across the public sidewalk, making tree-oids where real trees can’t grow. Where the metal fence ends, at the last patio on Fleet Street, the metal slats should multiply, run wild. The slats shouldn’t fill the space, close the space; they should fill the air, embody the air, make the air tangible – they carry light in the meantime, they make a glow overhead -- they should make clusters of air, heaps of air, so that people can cluster, when and where they want. </p> <p>This project view belongs to <a href="../../project/toronto_waterpark_city/index.html">Toronto Waterpark City Perimeter</a>, and is threadged with:</p> <ul> <li><a href="../../thread/2005/index.html">2005</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Bend-Fold/index.html">Bend-Fold</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Braid-Knot-Weave/index.html">Braid-Knot-Weave</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Buildings/index.html">Buildings</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Canada/index.html">Canada</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Clusters/index.html">Clusters</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Dar%C3%ADo%20N%C3%BA%C3%B1ez/index.html">Darío Núñez</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Eduardo%20Marques/index.html">Eduardo Marques</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/In%20Development/index.html">In Development</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Parks%20and%20Gardens/index.html">Parks and Gardens</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Peter%20Dorsey/index.html">Peter Dorsey</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Screen-Overlay-Camouflage/index.html">Screen-Overlay-Camouflage</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Split-Separate-Strips%20and%20Strands/index.html">Split-Separate-Strips and Strands</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Streets%20and%20Plazas/index.html">Streets and Plazas</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Toronto%20Waterpark%20City%20Perimeter/index.html">Toronto Waterpark City Perimeter</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Twist-Warp-Morph/index.html">Twist-Warp-Morph</a></li> <li><a href="../../thread/Wave-Ripple-Flow/index.html">Wave-Ripple-Flow</a></li> </ul> <p>(<a href="../../img/172/Toronto08.jpg">I</a>, <a href="../../img/172/Toronto08.jpg.large.jpg">L</a>, <a href="../../img/172/Toronto08.jpg.thumb.jpg">T</a>, <a href="../../index.html">A</a>)</p>
